Next level thinking #2 The "Un" factor in our leadership
Next level thinking requires undoing “un” factors across the board of our leaders.
Unproductive time: Be productive: We all have limited time. Ephesians 5:16 says to make the most of our time. How much discretionary time time does your team, youth team, creative team, Kid’s team, etc. have? Failure to get to the next level has a lot to do with the proportion of time we use wisely or misspend.
Uninvested: You need to be invested in what you do. I can’t stand to see ministries led by leaders who are uninvested in what they are doing. You can see the lac of passion in their life, in what they are doing and how they are living. You need to evaluate your teams, leaders, what you are doing on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to be like the inquistion, but you have to find some way to get these two things: What went good and what needs improvement. When you look at things from the angle of what needs improvement vs. what are we doing bad, that allows you and your team to be looking forward positively, rather than backwards negatively.
Ungrowth mentality: Although we may not say it, you may be unable to get to the next level because you have a mentality of ungrowth. You don’t expect growth in church in people, in your business, in your family, in your life. Maybe you don’t want it to grow. One time I had asked someone to help lead a ministry and it started out ok. I thought we were all own target with the same ministry and vision. Until they opened their mouth and said, “it doesn’t matter if this group grows in size or not. We will be faithful…” I thought to myself what? You don’t have to guess that soon after that such a lack of next level thinking and ungrowth couldn’t fly. I learned from the experience and know better now the questions I would ask before a leader would go in. I’ve also learned so much in 10 years of church planting on how to handle Ungrowth people.
Unbalnced leadership:
Leader 1: Two often we fail to get to the next level because we are unbalanced in two ways. Our inside balance. In a church they could be, committees, deacons, Children’s ministry, Elders, staff,
Leader 2: There is also the outward people and teams: whatever you are doing beyond the walls of your church, organization- servant evangelism team, first impressions, missions, outreach, contacting visitors, seeker Bible studies.
Leader 3: bivocational ministry leaders
Leader 4:
Fully funded minsitry leaders
It is suggested that there be a 50/50 ratio of L1 to L 2 leaders. Churches with 70% L1 and 30% L2 wind up in maitenance mode and ungrowth. To be in a missionary, growth mode It should be more like 30% to 70%.
Next level thinking. Go through the above again and ask how many leaders you need to bring on to correct the ratio. Secondly make a plan to do so. Churches with no plan won’t grow. Maitinance plans hold growth still. Groth plans spur your church and church body to grow structurally, organizationally and numerically. Get with your team members and look evaluate what your plans are. Ask you team what plans they already think you have. Until you start asking next level questions, you won’t get to next level thinking.
